He's Back!

Canada's favourite Italian-Canadian is back for another round of great food adventures through Italy. Legitimately one of the best shows on the Food Network.

Graphic Europe

From Curated.com

Given that people in creative fields often have leads on some of the more intriguing establishments in any given city, it should be no surprise that this book unearths some entertaining options. Each city is covered by a local designer. This gives both the content and the graphic identity unique and distinctive character.

In all, 31 cities are given “alternative guides” in Graphic Europe. The book will release in October through Cicada Books. A welcome change of pace from the canned vision of Lonely Planet.

Wax Jackets

I can't help but notice the sudden rise in popularity of English style waxed cotton outerwear in the blogosphere of late. Brands like Barbour certainly merit the attention. Very solid outerwear and a staple for any wardrobe. Maybe it's my English roots that attracts me like a magnet to these pieces.

I only bring this up because I was recently in Argentina, where these waxed cotton jackets seem to be the norm. Almost like they've clued in to this sense of style for years! Never before in my life have I seen so many classic European and English menswear stores. There must have been almost 1 on every block. There is a very strong equine and rural society in Argentina so a lot of their fashion is a derivative of polo culture and agriculture. We're talking tweeds, corduroy, herringbone, leather, cashmere and other fine materials. Just image hunting jackets with elbow patches, Oxford/Barbour waxed cotton coats, leather loafers and corduroy or wool slacks. It may sound stuffy, but for some reason, the Argentinians seem to pull it off.

Vancouver Bound

I'm excited to be back in Vancouver for the first time in over 6 months, albeit for less than 24 hours. It'll be short and sweet so I'll make sure to make the best of my trip.

It's been a while since I've been out there! Last December to be exact, so needless to say, I have a lot of catching up to do. I've taken some ideas from Room 907 as well as the h(y)r collective and compiled a very loose to do list. I'm really looking forward to hitting up some of Vancouver's best retail men's shops. They're doing a great job out on the West Coast so I can't wait to see what they have to offer. Here's my list so far:

- Roden Gray
- Dutil Denim
- Lark
- Stussy Chapter Store
- Alife
- Livestock
- Goodfoot
- Headqaurter
- Thomas Haas
- Holt Renfrew

If you have any other suggestions, post them in the comments!

Totally Tubular

Thought this was a worthy summer time post. Who doesn't love surfing. Truly one of the world's most universal sports along with Futbal.

Transworld Surf just had a little feature on some of the best barrels of all time and this one for me takes the cake. Tune in around the 37 second mark to catch one of the most impressive barrels that I've ever seen. Epic!

Speaking of surf, check out this shot of mine from Newquay in Cornwall, England. Pretty intense.

Jordans and Shades

This past weekend I was having a conversation with some mates about two of my biggest weaknesses. Sneakers and Shades. Now that I think of it, that could have be the title of my blog! Anyways, we got talking about Christian Dior and Dior Homme eyewear so I figured I better get up to speed with what they've been up to lately. I must say, they do offer an impressive range of eyewear in a lot of unique colorways. I've posted some that I wouldn't mind adding to the collection.

On the topic of sneakers, I wouldn't say I'm a huge collector. I'm an enthusiast and fan of classic kicks as well as many of the recent collaborations. I think a fully stalked closet must include a solid set of sneaks as well as your classic lifetime boots and dress shoes. I've never really been that deep in the Jordan scene, but our conversation sparked a little interest in me. Obviously I have an appreciation of such a pivotal shoe in sneaker culture. Jordan's 3 -6 are definitely the ones I'm into and the elephant print on the 3 probably takes the cake. Here's some Jordan eye candy for all of ya.
